Joining us on our đŚ Kruger + Cape Town đ Adventure? Here's what we'll be doing during our Day Trip in Johannesburg! đżđŚ

⨠Maboneng: Our last stop of this Day Trip!
Johannesburg Safety Notice: Johannesburg has a notorious reputation for crime, but like any big city, safety depends on where you go, when you go and how you behave.
If you have any concerns you can also opt out of the Johannesburg day tour if you wish.
Our tours are always with a trusted local guide and company, and we recommend travellers to NEVER travel on your own in Johannesburg. ALWAYS please book a local guide to accompany you for safety.
All photos below are from our last trip to Johannesburg in August 2024.
1. have breakfast at a historic mandela residence đł
Not to be confused with đĄ Mandela's House in Soweto (which we will visit next after this!), this historic Mandela Residence is where Nelson Mandela lived during his presidency.
Today it has been refurbished into a beautiful boutique hotel and retreat. â¨

Here we'll have a lovely breakfast in the Dining Area đł and thereafter have a short tour of the place and Nelson Mandela's legacy.
đ¸ The residence is filled with historic photographs - a perfect blend of culture and history with a refurbished modern setting. â¨
2. Visit soweto & mandela's original house đĄ
Standing for South Western Township, Soweto is a township in Johannesburg known for its deep history and is a symbol of resistance against the Apartheid in South Africa. đżđŚ
It was established in the 1930s & 1940s to segregate Black South Africans from White Urban Areas.
It became the heart of the Anti-Apartheid Resistance, being the home of Activists like Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu. â¨
Mandela's Soweto House & Pieterson Memorial
In 1976, a student protest (now known as the Soweto Uprising) resulted in the police opening fire, killing Hector Pieterson, just a 13 year old boy, amongst countless others. This sparked a nationwide movement against Apartheid.
3. catch a zulu street performance dance đşđż
When visiting Soweto, Zulu Street Performance Dancers often look for tourists to break out into an exciting and acrobatic, song and dance performance, in the hope of some tips in return! đ

If you're up for it, why not join them too! đ Be sure to have some 50 or 100 ZAR / Rand on hand to tip them to show them some appreciation! â¨đđť
4. HAVE LUNCH AT 44 STANLEY
A trendy urban spot in Johannesburg, 44 Stanley is a vibrant lifestyle precinct in Johannesburg. â¨
Originally a block of industrial buildings, today it has been transformed into a chic destination full of cafes, boutiques, creative spaces and art galleries. đŠđžâđ¨
Our awesome Johannesburg local guide, Mr. K bringing us around 44 Stanley!
5. Johannesburg from above! munro viewpoint
One of Johannesburg's most breathtaking scenic spots, Munro Viewpoint offers panoramic views of the city and surrounding suburbs. đ¸

A great photo spot and perfect place for a cup of coffee or hot chocolate! âď¸
6. Dinner at maboneng
Meaning "Place of Light" in Sesotho ⨠one of South Africa's 11 official languages đżđŚ Maboneng is one of Johannesburg's trendiest and most vibrant neighbourhoods.
đ Known for its street art and nightlife, Maboneng was once a neglected part of the inner city. Today it has been transformed into a hip, creative district filled with entrepreneurs and artists. đŠđ˝âđ¤
Safety Notice:Â This would be one of those places frequented by many locals and whereby our guide Mr. K will say: please don't dress too flashily (smart casual is fine), don't hang expensive cameras on your neck, or keep taking too many photos with your phone for safety. đđť

I think we also ended up crashing someone's birthday party? đ I'm not sure anymore. And our local guide Mr. K honestly practically knows like everyone everywhere. đđť
Honestly we just had a great time hahaha. đđťââď¸
anddd that's it! đđť Hope you're looking forward to visiting Johannesburg with us! đżđŚ
Johannesburg rightly has a notorious reputation for crime. We're thankful for our positive experience and hope that over time things can be better and safer for all travellers. đđť
Dressing casually, behaving conservatively and following our local guide Mr. K's lead ensured that we had a great time in Johannesburg. â¨
We hope that in future more travellers can have a good, positive experience of Johannesburg like ours. đđť
